Dext, also known as Prepare, is a tool that combines AI and OCR technology to identify and extract data from receipts, invoices, and expense documents. The system scans the document, identifies the relevant details such as amount, supplier, and date, and enters them directly into the client’s bookkeeping software. Unlike tools that interact with the user in conversation, this is a document-processing pipeline that works in the background with the sole purpose of saving typing time. To date the system has processed over 350 million documents, a figure that reflects technological maturity and wide use in the market.

The tool is mainly aimed at bookkeepers and accountants handling client expenses and supplier invoices who want a way to speed up repetitive data-entry work. Small and mid-size bookkeeping offices managing a large number of clients especially benefit from the automation, since it reduces typing errors and frees up time for analytical work and client advisory. The business model is based on a monthly subscription per client or for the whole office, though the exact pricing structures aren’t fully public.
