Fathom Commentary Writer is an add-on within the Fathom reporting platform that uses AI to generate commentary and narrative text for management reports intended for clients. The tool draws on the firm’s actual financial data and metrics to craft readable explanations of business performance, instead of the accountant writing the text from scratch every time. The result is a report that pairs charts and data with explanatory text that makes it easier for the client to understand the business meaning behind the numbers.

The tool is aimed at accountants and advisors who regularly produce management reports for their clients and want to upgrade the client experience without spending hours writing each report. For offices producing reports for dozens of clients every month, the time saved on writing can be substantial. From a business standpoint, it’s an add-on to an existing Fathom license rather than a standalone product, so it’s aimed first and foremost at the platform’s existing customers.

A key limitation is that the tool is entirely dependent on the quality of the data fed into the system, so a report based on partial or incorrect data will produce equally flawed commentary.
